WHO is Responsible for This Crisis?

WHO is Muddying the Waters?

On the one hand, there are climate change deniers, who are either woefully ignorant or intentionally disseminating misinformation (see https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/aaf939/meta for more info), and on the other hand there are climate alarmists, who try to convince us that we are doomed, so we may as well just give up all efforts to avert the crisis. Both are dangerous, but the alarmist have less influence. See this Guardian article or this Vox article for more info.

Here’s a partial list of those disseminating misinformation: https://skepticalscience.com/misinformers.php

Leading alarmists include Guy McPherson (analyzed here), Peter Wadhams, and Andrew N. Schofield – scientists all, sharing gloomy visions of impending doom that sometimes fail to materialize.

Also, social media platforms are being heavily used to disseminate misinformation. Here’s information about YouTube: https://www.ecowatch.com/youtube-climate-disinformation-2644840054.html, and British journalist Carole Cadwalladr investigated how false ads in Facebook influenced the Brexit vote – and may be used to influence U.S. elections, too: https://www.npr.org/2019/07/12/740771021/carole-cadwalladr-how-did-social-media-manipulate-our-votes-and-our-elections. Facebook is a major venue of disinformation in the US, too (well worth the 17 minutes to watch).
We strongly recommend installing software in your web browser to reduce the overall number of ads you see: https://www.vpnmentor.com/blog/the-best-and-worst-ad-blockers/

Climate Feedback is an excellent source of peer-reviewed, accurate information, accredited by the International Fact-Checking Network. The European Science-Media Hub also spreads accurate information. Climate Without Borders and Climate Tracker are examples of other organizations working to share accurate climate and weather information.
